Concerns

RenewLV is concerned with the decentralized, low-density, scattershot pattern of development (sprawl) that is the norm across much of the Lehigh Valley. We support comprehensive regional planning and regional cooperation as a means of promoting the revitalization of our core urban communities.

The term sprawl encompasses a wide array of interconnected issues.  To address our concerns, RenewLV seeks to address both the systemic problems that produce sprawl, as well as the negative effects of such development.

Contributing Factors:

Fragmented Local Government and Municipal Tax Base

Skewed Transportation Policy that Fosters Sprawl

Widely Disparate Outcomes between Local School Districts

Resulting Challenges:

Rapid Consumption of Farmland and Open Space

Declining Municipal Fiscal Health, Rising Local Tax Rates

Increased Traffic, Congestion, and Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) Per Person

Public Health Challenges Linked to Lack of Physical Activity as Part of Everyday Tasks

Poor, Uncoordinated Land-Use Planning and Growth Managment
